Shanker-Jaikishan songs

Funkada USA held its second successful musical nite on April 27 at the Mehran Restaurant, Newark, CA. The event was dedicated to the immortal melodies composed by  Shanker-Jaikishan.

Funkada USA held its first musical program on November 3, 2012, attended by more than 70 guests. The second musical nite attracted more than 90 music lovers.

More than three-hour program included Shanker-Jaikishan's composed songs presented on Karaoke by Ayesha Malik, Abdulrazzak Adenwala, Ghazala Siddiqui, Zafar Siddiqui, Iftekhar Hai, Atiya Hai, Jalil Shaikh, Mohammad Saleem and Ranjeet Singh.

Mohammed Khalid Tai thrilled the audience with his musical renditions on keyboard.          

Atiya Hai, Iftekhar Hai and Sheerin Attarwala appeared for the first time in the Funkada program.

Aziza Rehman, neice of well-known singer Gulshan Ara Syed, stole the show with her solo performance in the audience participation time.

Abdeulrazzak Adenwala, the spirit behind the Funkada program conducted at random survey about the program. According to the sample survey 79% described it Very Good and Good while 14% found it poor and 7% very poor. Adenwala said that he welcomed the negative comments which will help Funkada to improve its performance.

At the end Adenwala, who happens to be the convener of Fankada USA, thanked all the participants and singers to make this program successful. He particularly thanked Khalid Saeed, President of Pak American Culture & Arts Council of Greater Sacramento, who travelled from Sacramento to attend the Funkada musical nite.

Adenwala also explained why he had chosen the Shankar-Jaikishan theme.

Shankar-Jaikishan were the greatest musical duo to have graced the world of Indian cinema. So great was the impact of their creative genius that it had a lasting impact on the music of the Hindi films. Shankar-Jaikishan understood the taste of the masses, were able to cater to them, as well as moulded their tastes. No wonder then that during their tenure as music directors, they were exceedingly popular and 75 per cent of the films for which their scores were resounding hits - many have celebrated silver jubilees.

Shankar was born as Shankar Singh Raghuvanshi on October 15, 1922 in Gadarwara, Narsinghpur, Madhiya Pardesh. Jaikishan was born as Jaikishan Dayabhai Paanchal on November 4, 1932 in Basanda, Gujrat.

Their early works include Barsaat, Awaara, Badal, Poonam, Nagina, Aurat, Parbat, Kaali Ghataa, Aah, Patita, Shikast, Badshah, Mayur Pankh, Naya Ghar, Seema, Shree 420, Basant Bahar, Halaku, Patita, Rajhath, New Delhi, Kathputli, Anari, Chori Chori, Daag, Begunah, Yahudi, Main Nashe main hoon, Kanaiah, Boot Polish, Chhoti Behan, Sharaarat, Love Marriage, and Ujala.

During their career, S-J won Filmfare Best Music Director Awards nine times. The last three awards were won in three successive years, thereby making S-J the first composers to score a hat trick of these awards.

Jaikishan died in 1971 due to cirrhosis of liver. Shankar died in 1987.
